Laurie Byrne

Laurie has been shaping now for 40 years and at one time shaped Phil and Dave Byrne’s boards when they were young grommets. He is renowned as one of the most accurate shapers in the industry and over the years has shaped boards for many top professionals and respected surfers.

At the moment he is an integral part in helping develop Byrne’s Department of youth team by helping surfers such as Owen Wright and Dean Bowen with great shapes and advice for their competitive surfing careers.

Laurie is passionate about his shaping and surfing and holds both state and Australian surfing titles. In an example of his competitive spirit he has successfully overcome 2 bouts of cancer in recent years and even now is usually the first guy in the surf each morning.
